#3 VISUAL ARTS NEWSLETTER (ages 5+)

Updated: May 8, 2020

Good Art is Good Medicine!

Please enjoy these Elementary Visual Art Lessons. Some are more challenging than others. So choose lessons you want to do.

The practice of making art helps to support the limbic system of the brain so feel free to practice other age/grade level lessons if they look like fun to you.

May these activities allow you learn, create, explore, inspire and grow!

Spring is a good time for baby animals to be born because the days become longer and warmer. The warm weather makes it easier for the baby animals to survive. Baby pigs are very smart and super cute!

CALLIGRAPHY PRACTICE

Calligraphy is the practice of fancy writing and has roots in more than one culture. Early examples of calligraphy can be found in China from more than 4000 years ago with characters inscribed into clay with metal tools. Other early examples are found in Egyptian hieroglyphs, carved into clay tablets and dating back over 5000 years. From these early beginnings, we can now find early examples of calligraphy in Japanese, Arabic, and Medieval Illuminated Manuscripts.

GOALS:

  1. Practice a modern version of calligraphy lettering skills that uses thick and thin lines made with light (upstroke) and heavy pressure (downstroke).

  2. Practice writing your name or words that inspire

  3. Have fun!

VOCABULARY:

calligraphy, line: light & heavy

SUPPLIES:
